Every year December 1 is celebrated as World AIDS Day. "HIV-infection/AIDS pandemic is one of the most serious problems of world health in the field of infectious diseases. About 40 million people in the world are HIV carriers. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome - AIDS is a disease that a person "acquires", knowingly or unknowingly, as a result of subsequent activities.

The main goal of celebrating AIDS Day is to bring the countries of the world together in the fight against this problem.

For this purpose, an educational event called "Be healthy, think about your future" was held in Ganja Medical College on December 1 - World AIDS Day.

Mehman Rzayev, director of Ganja Medical College, honored doctor, opened the event and greeted the event participants. He noted that "the disease called AIDS has already become a scourge that grips the whole world. Despite the fact that this disease has a very ancient history, it actually took a massive form starting from the 80s of the last century. The number of people who died from AIDS in the world is measured in millions. In Azerbaijan, the carrier of this virus was discovered for the first time in 1987. At the moment, the danger continues in Azerbaijan, although it is at a low level compared to other countries due to the spread of the virus. Here, the epidemic spread mainly among the users of infectious drugs belonging to the high risk group," he emphasized.

Later, the speakers mentioned in their speeches that AIDS is an Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome disease. It is caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus HIV. This virus mainly damages the immune system, which provides resistance to diseases. As a result, the person infected with this virus weakens his resistance to all diseases after a while. After a certain period of time, the virus completely destroys the resistance of the human organism, and it remains powerless even against the most common microorganisms and malignant tumors. This disease has no age limit. Every person should be informed to avoid contracting the disease. Care must be taken when using medical instruments, blood transfusions, toothbrushes and razors, and especially women in beauty salons.
