On October 11, a meeting dedicated to October 18 - State Independence Day was held in Ganja Medical College. The director of the college Mehman Rzayev, who opened the event with the words of national leader Heydar Aliyev, "Azerbaijan's independence is permanent, eternal, irreversible", said that Azerbaijan had the opportunity to gain independence twice in a century and create its own sovereign state. "Azerbaijan's opportunity to become the first independent democratic state was lost due to foreign interference, internal strife and lack of international support. Thus, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, established in 1918, lived for only 23 months. The second historical opportunity arose 70 years later. The collapse of the Soviet empire gave the people of Azerbaijan the opportunity to regain their national independence. On October 18, 1991, the "Constitutional Act on State Independence of Azerbaijan" was adopted at the session of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan. With this important historical document, our people got the freedom they have longed for for many years," added Mehman Rzayev.
The director of the college noted that in the first years of independence, Azerbaijan was experiencing its own difficult days, and when the chaos and conflict in the country reached the limit of civil war, the people managed to take ownership of their future destiny by showing a determined will. The great leader Heydar Aliyev, who returned to power in Azerbaijan for the second time at the insistence of the people in 1993, made the independence of our country eternal and irreversible.
Mehman Rzayev emphasized that today independent Azerbaijan is in safe hands and noted that Mr. President Ilham Aliyev is working day and night for the independence and freedom of our state, its development and prosperity.
The students of the speaking college looked at the history of Azerbaijan's independence once again and talked about the importance of that day.
At the end, the event continued with the artistic part, and the students recited poems on the theme of patriotism and sang songs.
