On May 18-19, the 73rd World Health Assembly was held in the format of a video conference in connection with the conditions of the current COVID-19 pandemic in the world. In the session, strengthening of measures to fight against the KVID-19 pandemic, epidemiological control, implementation of quarantine rules, use of positive experience gained, organization and activities to be done were discussed. The participants of the World Health Assembly consisted of ministers of 194 states that are members of the WHO organization and representatives of a number of international organizations.

The Minister of Health of Azerbaijan, professor Ogtay Shiraliyev, who made a very extensive and explanatory speech at the event, spoke about the practical measures taken in our country to fight this terrible virus:

"Azerbaijan took serious measures against the pandemic in a timely manner, as a result of which a total of 3,274 cases of infection were registered in the country with a population of 10 million, 2,015 of them recovered, and the death rate was 1.2%. The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev appealed to the people: "We are strong together." I want to note that this call is also relevant at the international level. It is possible to succeed in the fight against the pandemic only by combining efforts and establishing a purposeful, well-thought-out action strategy," the Minister of Health added.

Professor Ogtay Shiraliyev said that Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate closely with international institutions and the world community.

"I am sure that the valuable ideas and proposals voiced today by the heads of delegations and heads of international organizations will help our joint fight against the coronavirus."
