Within the framework of the Human Rights Month (May 18 – June 18), the Ministry of Health organized a lecture and a round table discussion on human rights and freedoms at the Ganja Medical College.

The college’s history teacher, Zargalam Jafarova, spoke about the measures implemented in our country to protect human rights and freedoms. She noted that in the modern independent Republic of Azerbaijan, for the first time on June 18, 1998, the “State Program on the Protection of Human Rights” was approved by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and the protection of human rights was defined as one of the main directions of state policy.

By the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated June 18, 2007, this very date – June 18 – was declared Human Rights Day in Azerbaijan.

During the round table, discussions were also held on the protection of human and civil rights and freedoms in our country, as well as on legislative projects implemented in this field. It was emphasized that strengthening the rule of law and the protection of human rights in the modern development period of Azerbaijan is one of the main priorities of state policy. The democratic legal reforms carried out in the country have created conditions for significant progress in the protection of human rights, and during this period Azerbaijan has acceded to a number of international legal acts.

Speakers highlighted the steps taken in the country to protect human rights and the achievements made in this area.
