An event titled “March 31 – An Unforgettable Tragedy” dedicated to the Day of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis was held at the Ganja Medical College of the Ministry of Health. After the National Anthem was performed, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our homeland, and the victims of the March 31 genocide tragedy.

Speaking at the event, the director of the college, Honored Doctor Mehman Rzayev, emphasized that Armenian nationalists, at various stages of history, carried out ethnic cleansing, deportations, and genocides against our compatriots in an attempt to realize the mythical idea of “Greater Armenia.” One of the most terrible tragedies faced by the Azerbaijani people was the mass massacres committed with particular cruelty in March–April 1918 by the Dashnak-Bolshevik armed groups operating under the mandate of the Baku Soviet.

Other speakers noted that during those days, tens of thousands of civilians were killed in the city of Baku as well as in other cities and districts of the Baku Governorate solely because of their ethnic and religious identity, and many people were subjected to torture. Settlements were destroyed, and cultural monuments, mosques, and cemeteries were demolished. In the following years, Armenian nationalists, becoming even more radical, continued their inhumane actions, carrying out mass killings, looting, and ethnic cleansing in Karabakh, Zangezur, Nakhchivan, Shirvan, Iravan, and other regions. The civilian population in these territories was subjected to mass killings.

As part of the event, a video titled “The Unforgettable Brutality of the 20th Century” was shown. Students also recited poems during the program.
