At the Ganja Medical College under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a conference entitled “February 26 – The Khojaly Genocide: Our Bloody Memory” was held, dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide.
The event began with the performance of the National Anthem and a one-minute silence in memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the martyrs of Khojaly, and all those who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our country.
Opening the conference with an introductory speech, the college director, Honored Doctor Mehman Rzayev, stated that the Khojaly genocide, committed on the night of February 25–26 by Armenian armed forces and servicemen of the former Soviet Union’s 366th regiment stationed in Khankendi, as well as the bloody crimes of Armenian chauvinist policy, will never be forgotten. He emphasized that the events that took place in Khojaly were not only a genocide against the Azerbaijani people but also a grave crime against all humanity.
Rzayev added that one of the key objectives of the Azerbaijani state today is to ensure international recognition of the Khojaly genocide and to bring to justice those responsible for and involved in this massacre. He concluded his speech with the words of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, who stressed the importance of continuous and consistent efforts to inform the international community about the Khojaly genocide:
“The truth about the Khojaly genocide, which is an integral part of the policy of ethnic cleansing systematically carried out by Armenian chauvinist circles against Azerbaijanis in the 19th and 20th centuries, must be conveyed to the international community and to the parliaments of foreign countries. This extremely grave war crime directed against the Azerbaijani people and humanity as a whole must receive its international legal and political assessment.”
Afterwards, the staff and students of Ganja Medical College revisited those tragic events and stated that this bloody tragedy will never be erased from the memory of our people. It was noted that the Khojaly tragedy, considered one of the most horrific massacres in human history, must receive an international assessment and that those responsible for these atrocities must be punished.
The event continued with a literary and artistic composition dedicated to the Khojaly tragedy, performed by the students of the college.
During the event, the films “I Am Khojaly!” and “February 26, 1992” were also screened.
