The Ministry of Health Ganja Medical College hosted a conference titled “Let’s say NO to AIDS together” dedicated to December 1 - World AIDS Day.
The event, jointly organized by the Regional Development Public Union, the Republican AIDS Center of the Ministry of Health and the Ganja Medical College of the Ministry of Health, noted that today, AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) remains a significant global health problem affecting the lives of millions of people in the world. AIDS is caused by the inactivation and weakening of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which cannot effectively protect against diseases and infections. However, AIDS is not just a disease; it brings wide-ranging social and psychological impacts that affect both patients and their communities.
The speakers said that despite the measures taken to combat HIV/AIDS, its spread continues in the world, especially in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region. In Azerbaijan, the infection has spread mainly among people who are at high risk of infection. Our country is one of the countries with the lowest prevalence of the disease in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region.
It was also emphasized at the conference that educating people is one of the most important factors in combating a dangerous virus like AIDS.
After the speeches, a video clip on AIDS was shown. At the end, educational booklets were distributed to students.
