A conference dedicated to the “October 18 Independence Day” was held at the Ganja Medical College of the Ministry of Health. The event began with the singing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan and a minute of silence in memory of the souls of our martyrs who lost their lives for the freedom of our lands.
Speaking, the director of the college, Honored Doctor Mehman Rzayev, looked back at the history of that day and emphasized that the first official document adopted on the path leading Azerbaijan to independence coincided with August 30, 1991. At the session of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan on October 18 of that year, the Constitutional Act “On the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was unanimously adopted: “Azerbaijan, which faced problems that seemed difficult to solve in the first years of independence, was very close to experiencing the fate of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first independent state in the East. However, the happiness of our people was that in such a difficult period it had a proven leader like Heydar Aliyev, and in this life-and-death struggle it was no longer alone. At such a time, the election of the great leader Heydar Aliyev as the chairman of the supreme legislative body was a very important event in the life of the country. This political return, in the true sense of the word, returned Azerbaijan to the Azerbaijanis and the nation to itself,” M. Rzayev added. Then, the college’s doctor-teacher Gulshan Bagirova and her colleague Matanat Nabizadeh made speeches on the topic “Independence and Constitution Day” and especially emphasized the great political will of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in preserving independence after its restoration. It was noted that under the leadership of the worthy successor of the great personality, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the independence and sovereignty of our country were fully ensured after the liberation of our lands and the restoration of state attributes and laws in all territories of Azerbaijan. It was also emphasized that, by the decree of the head of state, taking into account the full restoration of our territorial integrity and sovereignty, the 30th anniversary of the adoption of our Constitution and the 5th anniversary of our victory in the Patriotic War, 2025 is celebrated as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Other speakers also spoke about the importance of this day.
College students recited poems and sang songs. At the end, the films “October 18 - The Day of Restoration of Independence!” and “Azerbaijan Restored Independence Forever” were shown.
