The establishment, development and strengthening of the Azerbaijani army is the logical result of Heydar Aliyev's tireless activity, political foresight and organizational ability.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the Soviet leadership, who always lived with the imagination of the empire, tried by all means to prevent Azerbaijanis from learning military art, and even sent them to serve in military units specialized in construction work when they were called to the army. However, the brilliant leader of the Azerbaijani people, our great leader Heydar Aliyev, did not overlook the great need of national officers with high military education, as in all fields during the first periods of his leadership. It was as a result of his serious efforts and struggle that the Military School named after J. Nakhchivanski started operating in Baku in the early 70s.

Historical facts show that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which lived for 23 months at that time, unlike other countries, created the Ministry of Defense and began to form our national army under its authority. However, the 11th Red Army of the Russian Bolsheviks put an end to these works, which were started with great dreams, and Azerbaijan joined the Soviet Empire.

At that time, the creation of the National Army by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was not just a step taken to form one of the main structures of the state. Attacks were launched on the newly created young independent state from various directions, Armenian gangs destroyed our cities and villages, and carried out genocide against our people without the knowledge of old people, women and children. In order to protect our lands, prevent atrocities and gain independence, the creation of an army became a necessity in the truest sense of the word.

The unity of the people and the army, which is the source of strength and inspiration of the armed forces, is a heritage that will be an example for human history.

A strong army under the leadership of the victorious Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev, national solidarity and unity, success at the international level, and economic potential were among the factors that honored the second Karabakh war.

"Iron Fist" operation of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief ended the occupation policy of Armenia as a result of the great victory of Azerbaijan in the 44-day Patriotic War from September 27 to November 9, 2020. Our people feel spiritual peace because Khojaly has been avenged and the blood of our innocent people and babies is not left on the ground. In the victory parade, Azerbaijan showed its military strength and might to the international world. This victory marked the most glorious page in the history of Azerbaijan, marking the unprecedented victory of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, which has the most powerful army in the South Caucasus. Under the leadership of the victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the whole world saw the military power of our country and the potential of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces. The countries that are friendly to Azerbaijan shared this feeling of pride with us. In this war of truth and justice, the people of Azerbaijan showed their power, moral spirit, national spirit, will and wisdom and put an end to their longing for the entire Homeland called Karabakh.

A strong, victorious Azerbaijani army is our source of pride. The whole world accepted this reality: "Karabakh is Azerbaijan". The Supreme Commander-in-Chief Muzaffar made an unparalleled signature in the history of Azerbaijan and restored historical justice.
