A conference was held in Ganja under the organization of WHO

In order to present the intermediate results of the training programs conducted within the framework of the "Support to Vaccination against COVID-19" and "Solidarity Initiative for Health" projects jointly implemented by the European Union (EU) and the World Health Organization (WHO) today, the WHO Country Office in Ganja city A conference was organized at Ganja Medical College.

At the conference organized in Ganja Medical College, Ganja City Executive Niyazi Bayramov, WHO Representative and Head of Country Office in Azerbaijan Hande Harmanci, Turkey's Consul General in Ganja Zeki Öztürk, representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Agency for Compulsory Medical Insurance, the Medical Territorial Units Management Union (TABİB) and "Regional Development" Public Union (RIİB), as well as experts from Turkey's Ondokuz Mayıs, Hacettepe, Ege and Dokuz Eylül universities, experts from local medical schools, Ganja city medical institutions and national training centers participated.

Before the event, the guests got acquainted with the conditions created in Ganja Medical College. Director of Ganja Medical College, honored doctor Mehman Rzayev stated that today's event coincided with the 90th anniversary of Ganja Medical College and gave detailed information to the event participants about the educational institution he leads.


After getting acquainted with Ganja Medical College, the conference started.

Niyazi Bayramov, the head of the Ganja City Executive Power, said that currently practical work is being done on the basis of the relevant tasks of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva regarding the development of healthcare in Azerbaijan. All the implemented measures and reforms are aimed at protecting the health of the population and establishing the health care system at the level of world standards. He noted that people working in the healthcare system should love their profession and master the secrets of this field. From this point of view, Ganja Medical College, which prepares middle-qualified personnel, has a great responsibility. The head of the city IH congratulated the staff on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Ganja Medical College.

WHO Representative in Azerbaijan, Hande Harmanci, gave detailed information to the event participants about the project "Solidarity Initiative for Health" and the EU-WHO campaign to support the introduction of COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination. He said that within the framework of the project, a total of 15 training centers were established in different regions of Azerbaijan. Trainings on "Covid-19 vaccination, basic and advanced life support" and "Inpatient management of COVID-19 patients" organized by the EU and WHO are being held in these centers. The trainings, which will last until the end of December, are carried out jointly with the "Regional Development" Public Union within the framework of two projects funded by the EU and implemented by the WHO - "Support to Vaccination against COVID-19" and "Solidarity Initiative for Health". To date, a total of 5,240 medical workers have been trained within the training courses, 1,850 on COVID-19 vaccination, 3,000 on basic life support, 190 on advanced life support, and 200 on inpatient management of COVID-19 patients.

In the continuation of the event, the project leaders of the WHO Country Office presented the interim evaluation of the measures implemented within the framework of support for the Continuous Professional Development related to COVID-19 for medical workers in Azerbaijan. Speaking at the mini-symposium dedicated to the Continuous Professional Development of healthcare workers, Turkish specialists touched on topics such as the nursing specialty and its duties and responsibilities, the basic provisions in the education of healthcare workers, the effectiveness of training programs for medical personnel, as well as improving the skills of healthcare workers.

At the round table moderated by Hande Harmanci, issues such as nursing education in Azerbaijan, its current situation and future directions were discussed.

It was noted that in order to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in 6 Eastern Partnership countries, including Azerbaijan, and to strengthen daily immunization programs, the World Health Organization, with the financial support of the European Union, will start a three-year "Support to Vaccination against COVID-19" from June 2021. " has begun to implement the project.

The "Solidarity Initiative for Health" project is a support project for the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, funded by the European Union and implemented by the WHO Representation in Azerbaijan. The project aims to help build a sustainable response capacity against future pandemics. These projects are part of the continuous support of the European Union and WHO to Azerbaijan.
