“January 20, the Day of National Heroism and Struggle” was commemorated at Ganja Medical College. The college's public relations department reported that after the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played, the dear memory of the great leader Heydar Aliyev and our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and independence of our country was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Speaking about the 35th anniversary of the events of January 20, 1990, which went down in the history of Azerbaijan as an example of heroism and struggle, Mehman Rzayev emphasized that on that terrible night, military units of the former Soviet army committed an unprecedented massacre against the civilian population who stood up in Baku to create an independent state and gain their sovereignty. This bloody crime could not extinguish the people's love of freedom, and our people, even at the cost of their blood, regained their independence:

“After the January 20 events in Baku, the national leader Heydar Aliyev, who came to the permanent representation of Azerbaijan in Moscow, sharply condemned this atrocity at that time, calling the terror committed against the people against the law, democracy, and humanity. The fact that the Great Leader made such a statement at a time when the Soviet empire still existed once again proved that only geniuses take great steps in politics,” M. Rzayev added.

Then, Eljan Osmanov spoke on the topic “January 20 is an unforgettable history for the Azerbaijani people” and Khadija Sadikhova on the topic “January 20 We commemorate our martyrs with pride and respect” and stated that the January 20 tragedy, which has become a symbol of national unity and patriotism, is the glorious history of our people's struggle for their freedom. Every year, on the anniversary of the tragedy, millions of people visit the Alley of Martyrs, built at the highest point of the capital, and commemorate the memory of their heroes. It was also noted that the events of January 20 had both a symbolic meaning and a phenomenal role in the struggle for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The collapse of the socio-political reality created by the events of January 20, against the backdrop of the approaching collapse of the USSR and the geopolitical situation that was forming in the international arena on the eve of the end of the Cold War, gave rise to chain historical processes, first in the Azerbaijan SSR, and then in independent Azerbaijan. The first legal assessment of these bloody events is the result of the political will of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. It was on the initiative of the Great Leader that the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic adopted a decision dated November 21, 1990, which gave the first political assessment of the January 20 tragedy.

After the speeches, poems dedicated to January 20 were sung by students.

At the end, video clips titled "January 20, National Day of Heroism and Struggle" and "Martyrs are not forgotten" were shown.
